Look for the manufacturer name/logo, OEM part number, size, offset (ET), load rating and production/date codes.Genuine OEM rims normally have detailed casting or stamped markings.
Look for JWL/VIA markingsJapanese rims commonly carry JWL and sometimes VIA markings.VIA is third-party registration/testing, while JWL is based on the manufacturer’s compliance testing.But don’t assume JWL/VIA automatically means OEM—replica wheels can also carry these markings.
Verify the part number
Take the number cast into the rim and search it against the vehicle manufacturer’s parts catalogue or a reputable OEM parts source.If the number doesn’t correspond to that specific model/wheel design, be suspicious.
Inspect the casting quality
Original rims generally have clean, precise casting, smooth edges and consistent finishing.Rough casting, uneven paint, poorly formed lettering or obvious grinding marks are warning signs.
Check the weight
Weigh the rim and compare it with the manufacturer’s specification.A significant difference can indicate a replica or a different construction. Weight alone, however, isn’t enough to prove authenticity.

Be careful with very cheap “original” rims In the Kenyan market, if someone is selling a supposedly original Toyota, Mazda, Subaru, Nissan, BMW, etc. rim at a price that looks too good to be true, investigate before paying.The biggest mistakeA rim saying “Made in Japan + JWL + VIA” is not automatically a genuine Toyota/Mazda/Nissan/etc. OEM rim.
